This answer helped Miss South Africa bag the Miss Universe 2017 crown
Even though India got its sixth Miss World when Manushi Chhillar bagged the crown, we missed out on the Miss Universe 2017 crown as Shraddha Shashidhar failed to reach top 10. However, South African beauty queen Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters impressed the judges and was crowned the new Miss Universe.
Del-Peters was being considered a favourite since the very beginning. While the 22-year-old was applauded for her beauty, her answer to the finale question was the real clincher for her.
In the final round, Steve Harvey, the host for the event, asked Nel-Peters, "What quality in yourself are you most proud of and how will you apply that quality to your time as Miss Universe?" To this, she very articulately answered, "As Miss Universe you have to be confident in who you are as an individual. And Miss Universe is a woman that has overcome many fears and by that she is able to help other women to overcome their fears. She is a woman that nothing is ever too much to ask for and I think that is exactly who I am."
Nel-Peters, who has a management degree, has brought back the crown to her country after 39 years, and is only the second South African to bag the title of Miss Universe. The last time a South African bagged the crown was in 1978 by Margaret Gardiner. She left behind participants from 90 countries to win the event, which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
While Miss Colombia was declared the runner-up, Miss Jamaica was adjudged second runner-up at the prestigious event, after their answer to the same finale question didn't score as high as that of Miss South Africa.
